What are your joys? Gardening, traveling, singing, playing the piano? Mine include yoga, dancing, and music. Yoga is not only a joy for me; it is one of my self-healing practices, along with meditation and play. Spending time each day in one, if not more, of our joys is where healing often occurs.

Listen to an old woman, I’ll tell you what I know.
The times I cherish most occurred a long, long time ago.
Like when I started school to learn to read and write and spell
Such stories that I never thought I’d live this long to tell!
It seems like only yesterday young men would turn their head
And softly sigh as I walked by...Now they turn away, instead.
The friends I’ve won, the friends I’ve lost, the lovers, good and bad
Don’t quite compare to one affair I wish I’d never had.
I never thought that I’d get caught amid this sorry crime
Of having been too busy, yet of wasting so much time
On things I thought I had to do, places I had to be.
So many strings I foolishly allowed to tug at me.
I understand you’re busy with an awful lot to do,
To listen to an old woman, alone and feeling blue.
It might sound like I’m rambling and lose my train of thought,
But one thing is for certain: dumb and useless I am not.
I still have all my senses; I can smell and taste and touch
The tender, fresh and bittersweet of Life I’ve loved so much.
Please listen when I say how fine and grand it truly was
To not be told “No, you’re too old!” “Hurry up!” and “Just because!”
Yes, just one minute of your time is all I need to take
To promise you how soon you’ll be like me, for heaven’s sake.
So thank you for these moments I have stolen from your day.
How nice to find someone so kind...I’ll now be on my way.
